The Darkness

We really like our new pool. It's located right outside our apartment, it's not too cold (but not too warm), and it even has a little hot tub right next to it. Win-win situation, right? Right?
Well, friends, let us fill you in. We have a neighbor who sunbathes daily. As in seven days a week. And she is black. Not African-American, mind you. Black. This poor woman is a melanoma waiting to happen. She's gone from Caucausian to Outer Darkness!
So the worst came on Saturday. We jumped in during the early afternoon to cool off. And she was there, sunbathing. But as we were leaving, so did she. She's so skinny that her nasty bikini was literally hanging off of her butt, like a baby's diaper when it gets wet.
As we were going out of the gate, she dropped her keys. Upon bending down to pick them up, her bottoms crept up just enough to show us the whitest tan lines we have ever seen in our lives!
And if this post doesn't already qualify as way too much information, we have more. We were trying to decide who she looks like, and we came to one conclusion: she has the body of the Crypt Keeper from that old Tales from the Crypt show.
Nasty.

Here you go Aaron--our trip to the Kwik-E-Mart!
In a cross promotion with the upcoming movie for "The Simpsons", 7-11 has converted 12 of their stores nationwide into full-fledged Kwik-E-Mart stores. Luckily, one of those stores happened to be just mere miles from our new place in Burbank. We went first on July 3, to find a line snaking out of the front door.
But then, a couple of days later, we snuck over, and found the wait way less daunting. We got in, and although specific Simpsons merchandise (Krusty-O's cereal, Buzz Cola) were sold out, we were able to get our mitts on special "Squishee" slurpees. Too bad we didn't get all syrup. Be prepared for a ton of pics!

Happy 4th of July!
We celebrated our nation's birthday up in Bakersfield. We cruised up with Mike and Brooke on Tuesday night, and spent the next day in style--Amy made us crepes, we saw "Ratatouille" (we highly recommend it, by the way), and then we swam, ate bbq, and enjoyed the BCC fireworks from Mom and Dad Elms' front yard with Grandma Lois and Grandpa Bill. Here are some pics from that night.

So, um, yeah, we live in Burbank now.
For the sake of brevity, I'll just cut and paste what I just wrote to Elder Bum in an email:
"So this past week we moved up to Burbank to a larger place in anticipation of the baby. So on Wednesday, I took the day off of school and Challa, my dad, and Challa's boy T-Work came down to help us move. It was quite the ordeal. It took all day, but we did it, and we celebrated by eating at Shakey's Pizza afterwards. Then we said our goodbyes, and everyone went their separate ways.
Then the fun started. Shawna and I went back to our new apartment, and after a long, hot day of work, I was understandably stinky. So I went to the bathroom, and prepared to take a shower. But before I jumped in, I noticed what looked to be little globs of paint on the bottom of the tub. Sure enough, I could scrape them off with my fingernail. That's when I noticed that there appeared to be dried paint on the sides of the shower wall. What's more is that I placed my hand on the bottom of the tub, and it stuck, as the tub bottom was tacky and sticky. I pulled my hand away, and I had paint all over my hand.
So to keep a long story short, I appears that they refinished the tub before we moved in, and the material didn't set. It remained wet,.and it rendered our one shower UNUSABLE. Very skippable.
So what we ended up doing was going back to our old apartment we had just vacated, as we had until the end of June to live there, and we slept on an air mattress on the floor for two nights. On Friday, they came and refinished the tub again, and we had to stay out as the chemicals probably would've made Shawna a little sick. But we finally returned yesterday, although we can't use the tub until probably tomorrow. In the meantime we're going upstairs to use the shower in a vacated apartment."
But we DO want to give BIG THANKS to Challa, T-Work, Father Bill, and Mike and Brooke Daines for coming up big for us when we needed it most.
Paint on my dedo.
Paint on the washcloth. Nasty.

Thank you to the McCalebs
We just wanted to thank you so much for letting us crash in your place during our Utah trip. We're sad that we didn't have a picture to post. But thanks so much!

The Goates Family
During our Utah trip we were also able to see the Goates family. Yep, all THREE of them--Mike, LaNae, and new addition, baby Isabella. Isn't Isabella cute?

Darrell and Amanda Johnston--June 22, 2007
We want to congratulate Darrell and his new wife Amanda on their recent wedding on June 22 in the Salt Lake Temple. We made the trek to Utah to be there for the wedding and the reception at the American Fork Amphitheatre. It was a lot of fun as family, friends, and older friends were there en masse. Check out the pics!
